Bielefeld exchange

Since 2005, the German department at Queen Elizabeth’s has been running a highly successful exchange programme with our partner school in Bielefeld (north-west Germany) for boys in Years 9 & 10. This trip is an excellent opportunity for boys to practise their language skills for GCSE, to enhance their cultural awareness of another European country and to make friends abroad. Each year, boys spend up to a week staying with their host families in Germany and then host their partner during their week-long return visit to QE. Most trips take place during term time.

The programme of activities included in the exchange include:

  • attending normal lessons at the German school
  • local sightseeing and shopping in town
  • a joint party with disco or campfire and buffet organised by our hosts
  • a pupil football match
  • a bowling tournament
  • a trip to the famous car factory museum in Autostadt Wolfsburg
  • watching a live premier league football match at the local stadium
  • a variety of social events organised by the individual host families
