Year 7 Pastoral Information
Welcome to the school
At Queen Elizabeth's School we are proud of our strong academic traditions, illustrated by our continued excellent results. We are aware that the best way to ensure that these results are maintained is for parents to work closely with us to guarantee that their son's abilities are developed and extended as effectively as possible.
We hope that the curriculum information on each department's area of this website will provide you with a clear understanding of the ways in which we operate, and how you must help with your son's education. The information will tell you about the work to be covered in each subject during the year, the skills your son will be developing and about the homework you might expect to see. You will also discover how the School and each separate department would wish you to contribute to the process. You will learn about the framework for monitoring and assessing pupil progress and about the setting arrangements. The information will also tell you something about the supportive measures we have put in place to assure the quality of pupil performance, but also what you must do to support the School in its work.
In addition there is an extensive Personal Social Health Education programme, which is continued throughout the year. It is vital that the boys gain a sense of their moral role within the School community and beyond. This PSHE programme will include a range of speakers and programmes which will deal with settling in, personal safety, children’s rights, careers and being a good citizen.
We are aware that the first weeks at secondary school can be an anxious time for some pupils, but it should also be an exciting time. It is essential that boys develop good study habits at an early stage, and time management will be an important feature of this. It is essential for your son to become involved in a range of extra-curricular activities, and we hope that boys will soon be able to build a significant record of achievement.
Your son’s homework diary will be critically important, and you should monitor this regularly to remain fully informed about your son's performance. At the same time, this information should be a valuable source of reference.
We are delighted to welcome you as parents of our new intake and look forward to working with you in the coming years.
