Victory in Geography quiz

After two years as the runner-up, Queen Elizabeth’s School’s geographers emerged triumphant from this year’s Worldwise Quiz.

In a closely fought contest, QE’s top Year 10 team forced last year’s winners, Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School, into second place and the 2007 winners, Sir John Lawes School, into the third spot to win the North London round of the national Geographical Association competition.

The event was hosted this year by QE and organised by Geography teacher Sarah Jones.

“I am extremely proud of the Worldwise Quiz team. The first team and the reserves have all worked really hard and the first team certainly deserved to win,” said Dr Jones. “The event was great fun and an excellent opportunity for local schools to work together in promoting geography.”

Eight local schools competed in the quiz, which consists of eight rounds designed to test the students’ geographical knowledge and understanding. These included quick-fire questions on topics such as Geography in the News, Fieldwork, Ordnance Survey Maps and Identifying Mountains and UK Landmarks.

The QE first team comprised Nigethan Sathiyalingham, Shaneil Tanna and Andrew Wang, while the reserve team was Rahul Dabasia, Rihan Dewan and Deversh Seth.

The other schools competing were: Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls, Palmers Green High, Southgate, North London Collegiate and Queen Elizabeth’s Girls’ School.
