Economics & Business
The Economics and Business Department comprises a well qualified, professional and committed team of five staff. We achieve outstanding results in public examinations and consistently deliver excellent 'value added'. There is a strong tradition of boys leaving the department to take up places on related undergraduate courses and an impressive record of success with Oxbridge entry. All prospective teachers need to be confident in delivering high-quality lessons that will enable bright boys to attain the top grades so that places at Russell Group universities can be secured.
Each member of the department has his or her own specialist teaching room. These rooms are well equipped, with television, video/DVD, overhead projectors and interactive whiteboards. The School has five dedicated computer suites, which can be booked for business and economics lessons. Courses are offered in GCSE Economics and Advanced Level Economics and Economics and Business. Pupils are set in ability groups at GCSE level, and entry to A Level courses is based on recommendation by the relevant subject teacher. Uptake is high in both key stages.
The department is involved in many extra-curricular activities, which include Target 2.0, Young Enterprise, Mini Enterprise, Student Investor, Make Your Mark, the Young Direct Marketing Awards, the IEA Essay Competition and other relevant competitions. We are proud of our regular regional, national and European successes in such competitions.
A number of annual visits are organised for the boys, including trips to Coca-Cola, The Bank of England, a City Tour, London Olympics 2012 and various conferences. An annual European Study Tour for Sixth-Formers takes place to destinations such as Prague, Barcelona and Brussels.
