Founder's Day 2023

An opportunity to give

Whether you can make it to Barnet on Founder’s Day or not, donating via our JustGiving page is one of the easiest ways of helping FQE hit its £25,000 target for Founder’s Day 2023. Founder’s Day is the single largest annual fundraising event for FQE, a registered charity that has helped transform the School campus and the educational opportunities on offer. We are all privileged to be part of the Elizabethan community; please give what you can and help secure a great legacy from this special Founder’s Day.

450th Anniversary: thriving from ancient roots

I warmly invite you to attend our historic Founder’s Day on Saturday 17th June, in this, our 450th anniversary year. It’s always a relaxed and enjoyable day – and this year promises to be extra-special.

Founder’s Day is a celebration of the School’s community, blending well-loved traditions and a good deal of fun. We welcome all, but it is always particularly lovely to see Old Elizabethans and former staff and parents, alongside current boys and families. Founder’s Day is a great opportunity to catch up with friends and to help out the School at the same time. Founder’s Day 2022 was notable for people coming back to visit, in some cases for the first time in many years. Our 450th anniversary gives a great reason for even more to do so in 2023.

As you will see below, there are some additions to our usual programme for this special year, while we expect the afternoon FQE Fete to be more popular than ever. In these difficult times, to ensure that QE can keep looking forwards and enhancing opportunities for current and future generations of students, the fundraising element of the day is crucial. After 450 years of ups and downs the School is thriving from its ancient roots, but we do need the help of our wide community of supporters to continue to do so. So whether you plan to attend, or you are unable to make it, please do support us by donating. You will be helping us offer fantastic opportunities within the state sector to pupils of all backgrounds, including those of modest means – and purely on merit. Those opportunities and experiences equal or surpass those at expensive and exclusive independent schools, thus aiding social mobility and enhancing life chances.

Thank you for all your support – and I look forward to seeing very many of you on the day.

Play the game!

Any OEs who would like to play in the Founder’s Day Stanley Busby Memorial Cricket match are warmly invited to drop us a line. It’s a relaxed match between a team of alumni and the current School XI, named after a late QE parent and governor (1989-2011).

Queen Elizabeth's School Book

QE history before your very eyes!

There’s a very rare opportunity to see QE’s original Royal Charter from 1573, complete with Queen Elizabeth I’s seal, as well as other archival items at our pop-up QE Collections mini-exhibition on Founder’s Day. You can also buy a copy of Dr John Marincowitz new book charting the remarkable history of the School and setting it in the context of local history and the broader changes in education nationally. He will be there in person and would love to see you! John will be signing copies of his book from 2pm to 2.45pm as part of the exhibition. If you can’t make it to Founder’s Day, you can still buy a copy of the book online – and check out the digitised version of the Charter at the foot of the QE Collections home page.
