Dr Robert Hyland: Biography

Robert Hyland MA EdD started teaching in secondary education in 2014 and worked at a school in Southampton, before being appointed at QE in 2017 as a teacher of English and Latin.

A graduate of Oxford, he was Access and Admissions Officer at the university’s Trinity College. He has worked with Teach First, a charitable organisation aimed at improving socio-economic inequality through education. He has delivered training for teachers at conferences around the UK and has helped new entrants to the profession within schools, providing observation and feedback. He has pursued research interests in eco-pedagogical approaches to English teaching and has worked as a freelance product developer for the OCR Cambridge examination Board.

Appointed Head of English in 2018, he remained in that position until September 2026, when he became Assistant Head (Destinations and Progress).

After studying in his spare time, he completed his Doctorate in Education at Canterbury Christ Church University in May 2025.
