National honours for Taekwon-Do champion

A Year 13 pupil has been selected to represent England in the European Taekwon-Do Championships in Slovakia this month (October 2011).

Jaymin Thakrar won his division for both sparring and traditional patterns at the ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation) England National Selection Tournament in Brighton and has spent the summer training with the England national squad.

“Only a handful were picked to add to the national team, which only has 25 people in it of all ages” said Jaymin. “Training with the squad has been a great experience and I can’t wait for the competition in Bratislava. The most important thing now is to make sure I’m fully fit and injury-free.”

Jaymin has been involved with Taekwon-Do for 11 years and is not only one of the youngest Third Degree Black Belts in the country, but also one of the youngest fully qualified instructors.

He is hoping to qualify for the World Cup Taekwon-Do championships next year, which is due to be hosted by the UK.
