HEAD OF YEAR (UPPER SCHOOL) required for September 2017

Closing date: Monday 31 October 2016

Applications are invited for Head of Year. It is expected that the successful applicant will take responsibility for a year group in the Upper School (Years 11-13) from September 2017.

Queen Elizabeth’s School is located in North London on the edge of the Green Belt and is one of the country’s leading and most historic selective maintained schools for boys. It was founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1573, following a request of a charter for the School by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester.

Heads of Year are responsible for securing pupils’ rounded development by celebrating successes and providing support in relation to overall academic performance, wider school involvement, and general conduct. They play a vital role in the delivery of an excellent, bespoke education to our boys.

This role requires outstanding communication skills, energy and a firm commitment to upholding the School’s standards and expectations. As well as being a good administrator, the person appointed will be able to deal effectively with staff, parents and outside agencies and lead a team of tutors and year group decisively and by example.

Further information about the vacancy is available to download here. The School's application form is available here and should be submitted online, together with a covering letter and up-to-date CV, here.

We are inviting applications for salaried and unsalaried places on the School Direct Teacher Training Programme to start in September 2017. Well-qualified and enthusiastic graduates from all disciplines are welcome to apply although we are particularly keen to hear from those looking to train in the following subjects: English, Geography, History, Languages (any combination of French, German and Latin), Mathematics, Science and PE (these are the high priority and other priority recruitment subjects).

To be eligible to apply, candidates should have a relevant degree which has been awarded at 2:1 or above. To apply for the salaried programme, they should also have at least three years' professional (work) experience.

We are working as a consortium with several other local schools and the University of Hertfordshire to offer this training. Watford Girls' Grammar School is the named school on the Teaching Agency's website. As well as applying to Queen Elizabeth's using the application form below, applicants should also register their interest with the Department for Education.
