Staplyton spirit helps House to Sports Day runners-up position

Stapylton achieved 2nd place at QE’s Sports Day, thanks to a string of individual performances by boys from Years 7-10 that saw the House winning 22 events.

Notable successes include: Eben Sarpong (Year 7) who won 100m A and 200m A; Matthew Sears (Year 9) who won 100m A and 200m A; and, Jackson Tang (Year 10) who won High Jump and Long Jump A.

Eben said: “I found that I got to know other members of my House through Sports Day. I also found that being cheered on helped me win races. Matthew added: “When Sports Day came, I felt confident that my hard work training at lunchtimes would pay off and thankfully it did.”

The Head of House, Jesse-Steve Amartey, spoke of the “remarkable” cohesion evident on the day, with Year 7 boys talking to those from Years 9 and 10. “This was not apparent in other houses, where the year divide was evident. I believe this Staplyton spirit was the key to our success and that next year we can win!”
