Strong performance in Geography quiz

A Year 10 QE team finished as runners-up in a popular Geography quiz against competitors from other leading local schools.

Nine schools brought along teams comprising three Year 10 pupils each to the local round of the Geographical Association’s national competition, the Worldwise Quiz, which was held at Watford Grammar School for Girls. Representing QE were Drew Sellis, Rivu Chowdhury and Manas Madan.

""Geography teacher Natasha Cottingham said: “The boys did very well against some stiff competition from schools like Dame Alice Owen’s and came second overall. Their performance was strong throughout the quiz.”

The topics covered by the rounds were:

  • ""Landmarks of the UK
  • Mixed Bag (in which pupils had one minute to answer as many questions as they could)
  • Ordnance Survey maps
  • Alphabet (in which the correct answers to questions began, in order, with letters from A to Z).

The Geographical Association, which is the country’s leading subject association for Geography teachers, organises the quiz with the objective of promoting Geography in schools.
